Edwin was born on March 17th, 1804 in Danville, VT.¹ Edwin's father was John Rankin and his mother was Lois Whitcher. His paternal grandparents were James Rankin and Margaret Witherspoon. He had five brothers and six sisters, named David, John, Asa, Henry, Horatio, Marion, Abigail, Lois, Maria, Laura and Sarah. He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 11 on November 15th, 1815 in Danville, VT.¹
