Maria was born on September 3rd, 1806 in Danville, VT.¹ Maria's father was John Rankin and her mother was Lois Whitcher. Her paternal grandparents were James Rankin and Margaret Witherspoon. She had six brothers and five sisters, named David, John, Asa, Edwin, Henry, Horatio, Marion, Abigail, Lois, Laura and Sarah. She was the fifth youngest of the twelve children. She died at the age of 48 on October 22nd, 1854 in Danville, VT.¹
