William was born on April 25th, 1900 in 3 Booth's Yard, Idle, Bradford, W. Yorks.1   William's father was William Thomas Motley and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth Ickeringill.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Motley and Maria Elizabeth Smith; his maternal grandparents were John Ickeringill and Martha Smith. He had five brothers and four sisters, named John George, George, Herbert, Leslie, Arthur, Wilhelmina (Mayna), Lilian, Martha and Edith Eleanor.  He was the third oldest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Charles, John and Emily.  He died about 1966.
