I have tried to omit all living people for privacy reasons, but if I have have included anyone still alive, please contact me and let me know.

Most of my ancestors were either ironstone miners from North Yorkshire (Beadle, Henderson, Newby, Rose), textile workers from West Yorkshire (Deane, Ickeringill, Smith, Medley, Wilkinson, Cocker, Wright), leather workers from East Sussex, Surrey, London (Elliott) and Ireland (Higgins). There are even a few famous or notable ones, particularly:

Isaac Ickeringill (b. 1803) my GG Grandad – he was a revolutionary Chartist and is in the history books
Leslie Motley (b. 1909) my half uncle – long lost until now
Ira Ickeringill (b. 1836) 1st cousin, 3 times removed – mill owner and twice Mayor of Keighley
Paul James Ickeringill (b. 1915) my 3rd cousin, twice removed – see his interesting history
Norman Thomas Ickeringill (b. 1923) my 3rd cousin, twice removed – wrestler in Melbourne Olympics
Louisa Eleanor Elliott (b. 1864) my G Grandmother – from Bemondsey and her husband Michael Heaton Merrall – see his father’s links to the Bronte sisters.
