Gijsebert was born in February 1742 and his baptism took place on February 7th, 1742 in Harderwijk.1  Gijsebert's father was Samuel Baltuszn Schaftenaar and his mother was Harmpje Barentsdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Balthasar Schaffner and Margaretha Mueller; his maternal grandparents were Berend Claeszn N.N. and Bijland Gijsbertsdr N.N.. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Baltus, Berent, Bijland Samuelszn, Aaltje, Sijbille, Barentijen, Anna Catharina, Anna Catharina, Stijntje Samuelsdr, Steijntje Samuelsdr and Barentje.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 63 in June 1805.  The funeral took place on June 3rd, 1805 in Harderwijk.1 1
