Bijland Samuelszn was born in September 1739 and his baptism took place on January 25th, 1739 in Harderwijk.1  Bijland Samuelszn's father was Samuel Baltuszn Schaftenaar and his mother was Harmpje Barentsdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Balthasar Schaffner and Margaretha Mueller; his maternal grandparents were Berend Claeszn N.N. and Bijland Gijsbertsdr N.N.. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Baltus, Berent, Gijsebert, Aaltje, Sijbille, Barentijen, Anna Catharina, Anna Catharina, Stijntje Samuelsdr, Steijntje Samuelsdr and Barentje.  He was the eleventh oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 85 on January 25th, 1825 in Haarlem.2
