Berent was born in November 1723 and his baptism took place on November 3rd, 1723 in Harderwijk.1  Berent's father was Samuel Baltuszn Schaftenaar and his mother was Harmpje Barentsdr N.N..  His paternal grandparents were Balthasar Schaffner and Margaretha Mueller; his maternal grandparents were Berend Claeszn N.N. and Bijland Gijsbertsdr N.N.. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Baltus, Bijland Samuelszn, Gijsebert, Aaltje, Sijbille, Barentijen, Anna Catharina, Anna Catharina, Stijntje Samuelsdr, Steijntje Samuelsdr and Barentje.  He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.  He died in November 1723.  The funeral took place on November 10th, 1723 in Harderwijk.2 2
