Jan was born in June 1772 in Kamerik and his baptism took place there on June 14th, 1772.1  Jan's father was Cornelis Pieterszn de Haan and his mother was Hilletje Jansdr van Vliet.  His paternal grandparents were Pieter Corneliszn de Haan and Aagje Jansdr van Rossum; his maternal grandfather was Jan Hermenszn van Vliet and his maternal grandmother is Jannigje Willemsdr Bekker. He had three brothers and ten sisters, named Pieter, Tijmen, Hermannus, Jannigje, Aagje, Claartje, Marrigje, Neeltje Cornelisdr, Hanna, Grietje, Willemtje, Emmerensje and Elizabeth.  He was the tenth oldest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 75 on January 19th, 1848 in Willeskop.1
