Lily was born on February 28th, 1899 in Walthamstow, Essex.¹

Lily's father was James Wootley and her mother was Alice Benstead. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Wootley and Eliza Roft; her maternal grandparents were James Benstead and Ann Wisbeach. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Percival, Edwin, Sydney, Herbert, Maud, Florence and Winifred. She was the third youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 93 in March 1992 in Waltham Forest, London.²
