John was born in 1820 in Kelvedon, Essex and his christening took place there on August 29th, 1820.1   John's father was Thomas Aylen and his mother was Mary Sayers.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Aylen and Mary Riley. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, John, Thomas, George, Mary, Hannah, Eliza and Harriet.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 1 on May 13th, 1821.
