George was born in 1831 in Kelvedon, Essex.1   George's father was Thomas Aylen and his mother was Mary Sayers.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Aylen and Mary Riley. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, James, John, Thomas, Mary, Hannah, Eliza and Harriet.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
