Eliza was born in 1832 in Kelvedon, Essex and her christening took place there on June 3rd, 1832.1 2   Eliza's father was Thomas Aylen and her mother was Mary Sayers.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Aylen and Mary Riley. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, James, John, Thomas, George, Mary, Hannah and Harriet.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
