Hannah was born in 1829 in Kelvedon, Essex.1   Hannah's father was Thomas Aylen and her mother was Mary Sayers.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Aylen and Mary Riley. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, James, John, Thomas, George, Mary, Eliza and Harriet.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
