Mary was born in 1846 in Prestwick.1  Mary's father was James Robertson and her mother was Ann McMurran.  Her paternal grandparents were William Robertson and Elspeth Thomson; her maternal grandparents were Jonathon McMurren and Susan McAllan. She had six brothers and a sister, named William, John, David, James, George, Jonathan and Annie.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She had two half-sisters named Susan and Catharine.  She died whilst giving birth, anemia, duration months, childbirth & prostration, 9 days, at the age of 22 on June 28th, 1868 in Monkton.2
