Catharine's father was Arthur Roney and her mother was Ann McMurran.  Her paternal grandparents were Arthur Roney and Catherine McKinlay; her maternal grandparents were Jonathon McMurren and Susan McAllan. She had a sister named Susan.  She was the younger of the two children. She had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William, John, David, James, George, Jonathan, Mary and Annie.
