William was born on November 2nd, 1767 in Torryburn and his baptism took place there on November 3rd, 1767.1 2  William's father was George Robertson and his mother was Mary Cochran. He had three brothers named George, John and John.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died from a stroke, "Appoplexy", at the age of 72 on April 15th, 1840 in Newton-on-Ayr.1
