Richard Linton was born in 1883 in Heathcote. Richard Linton's father was Peter Robert CHALLEN and his mother was Florence Sharp PEARSON.  His paternal grandparents were Charles William CHALLEN and Jane MERRETT. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Robert William, Matthew Bradbury, Ernest Blandforth, Arthur Browning, Oliver Leopold, Benjamin Milton, Florence Elizabeth, Alice Maud, Grace, Emily Jane, Lucy Matilda and Daisy Eunice.  He was the fifth youngest of the thirteen children.
