Grace was born in 1877. Grace's father was Peter Robert CHALLEN and her mother was Florence Sharp PEARSON.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles William CHALLEN and Jane MERRETT. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Robert William, Matthew Bradbury, Ernest Blandforth, Richard Linton, Arthur Browning, Oliver Leopold, Benjamin Milton, Florence Elizabeth, Alice Maud, Emily Jane, Lucy Matilda and Daisy Eunice.  She was the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.
