Oliver Leopold was born in 1885 in Heathcote. Oliver Leopold's father was Peter Robert CHALLEN and his mother was Florence Sharp PEARSON.  His paternal grandparents were Charles William CHALLEN and Jane MERRETT. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Robert William, Matthew Bradbury, Ernest Blandforth, Richard Linton, Arthur Browning, Benjamin Milton, Florence Elizabeth, Alice Maud, Grace, Emily Jane, Lucy Matilda and Daisy Eunice.  He was the third youngest of the thirteen children.
