Ernest Blandforth was born in 1878 in Emerald Hill. Ernest Blandforth's father was Peter Robert CHALLEN and his mother was Florence Sharp PEARSON.  His paternal grandparents were Charles William CHALLEN and Jane MERRETT. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Robert William, Matthew Bradbury, Richard Linton, Arthur Browning, Oliver Leopold, Benjamin Milton, Florence Elizabeth, Alice Maud, Grace, Emily Jane, Lucy Matilda and Daisy Eunice.  He was the sixth oldest of the thirteen children.
