See Map Lives with: In 1841, Alice (35) and Benjamin Beswick (15)
Benjamin was son of Benjamin and Alice, baptised 1 May 1825, Tottington.

In 1851, Alice (49, House Servant) was with William and Jane Howarth (her sister) and family at New Farm, Walmersley, N Bury Lives with: In 1841, Alice (35) with William and Jane Haworth and family at Holcombe Representative of: Richard Booth of Tomlin Fold, Tonge reported James Beswicks death in 1842 Pupil of: Bryce Zachary Smith is the grandson of Phyllis Ipson and John Adam Moor (1940-2006), Zelma's daughter. Representative of: Ann Brooks was a marriage witness for her nephew John (an aunt) 1797 - 1864 James Mather 67 67 James Mather (1797-1864) is the older brother of Nanny Mather, son of James Mather and Happy Lomax.

James's first wife, Mary died aged 24 in 1827.  Three years later, James (now shown as a Widower) married a pregnant Jane Dakin, who gave James a daughter, also Jane.  His young wife Jane also died, possibly giving birth or very soon after!  Their daughter Jane also died after 6 months.

James was on the 1831 L.B. Poor List, living at Blackburn Street (same as his mother in 1811).

James, who already had two infant sons, married a much younger Mercy Grime in 1833, a year after his second wife Jane had died.  Their first son William was born soon after.  Daughter Esther Mather born 1840 confirms MMN = GRIME.

On the 1841 census, James and Mercy (35 and 30) were living in Sidney Street (see map).  His son William (9) was listed first below the parents followed by John (15) and Samuel (12) from his earlier marriages, and then their three daughters, Ellen, Mary Ann and Esther (6, 4 & 1).

In 1851, James and Marcy (51 & 41) are at Back Sydney Street.  All their children were with them: William (17), Ellen (16), Mary Ann (14) and Esther (10). Neighbours were William and Jane Booth (41 & 44). I have DNA matches to both families, possibly because James's sister Nanny Mather married Richard Booth in 1825.

He was a Presbyterian, and some of the family used St. Andrews in Bolton.  His oldest son John became a sucessful beer seller, running the Rothwell Street Tavern in Bolton.

His daughter Mary Ann lived at 12 Shaw Street, Seacombe when she re-married in 1900.

3 July 1864 James Mather of Lever Street died, aged 68.  His death was recorded in the Bolton Chronical.
~1765 Catherine Whalley 1802 - 1855 Alice Booth 53 53 In 1841, Alice Beswick nee Smith (35) and her son Benjamin (15) were with her Jane Howarth (nee Booth).  Benjamin's father was Benjamin Booth of Tottington.  Was this the same Alice?

In 1851, Alice was still with her sister and family.
1787 - 1842 James Beswick 54 54 In 1820, James Beswick, weaver married Alice Booth.  I have strong DNA connections to James and/or Alice.  Of all their children, only Nancy gave them grandchildren.

In 1841, James Beswick (50, Cotton Weaver) was with his three surviving children: Nancy (16), James (12) and Alice (7) at Tombling Fold, Tonge.  This is very likely "Tomlin Fold" next to Under Shore on the map and 1841 census (see map).

James and Alice emigrated to Utah, USA

19 Oct 1842, James died at Tomlin Fold, Tong with Haulgh, aged 55 years.  Richard Booth was the informant.
1791 - 1792 Alice Booth 1 1 1806 - 1808 Elizabeth Booth 2 2 1810 - 1853 Margaret (Peggy) Booth 43 43 1798 - 1802 Adam Booth 4 4 1796 - 1858 Richard Booth 62 62 It is clear that Ann cannot be the mother of all of Richards Children.  He must have been widowed when he married her (which is confirmed on the marriage record)

In 1815, Richard married Jane Draper and between 1817 - 1825 they had Sally, James and John baptised, but not Willam who is on the 1841 census aged 20, so possible two families merged!

Richard Booth, a Groom, 45, was at Toppings in 1841 with 8 or 9 children, but probably widowed.

In 1842, Richard Booth, Weaver of Tomlin Fold was the infromant of his bro-in-law's death.
1813 Jane Booth in 1851, William and Jane Howarth (and her sister Alice) and family at New Farm, Walmersley, N Bury 1815 Ellen Ann Booth 1804 - 1825 Adam Booth 21 21 ~1804 Alice Brooks 1825 - 1901 James Booth 76 76 James and Rchael had a large family of 10 children at Breightmet.  Their son Joseph married Elizabeth Isherwood, daughter of Sophia Mather.

In 1851, James and Rachel (26 & 23) were at Tong, Breightmet with their son Charles (2)
1828 - 1911 Rachel Walmsley 83 83 1806 William Rosthorn William married Elizabeth Booth and in 1841 was living at Turton Bottoms with 7 children.

William was a cotton spinner from Bradshaw.
1804 Thomas Scowcroft Booth In 1851, Thomas Booth, 45, unmarried was at Mason Fold, Horwich, a neighbour of William and Maria Collings (nee Mather).  Both men were Ag. Labourers from Harwood. 1824 - 1908 Nancy Beswick 84 84 Richard Booth is in trees of members with a DNA match:

1820 Margaret (Peggy) Holding Peggy (in 1871) is a pet name for Margaret (in 1881), so she may be Margaret Wood, married 8 May 1837 at Bury, or more likely Margaret Holding married 4 Nov 1845 to Thomas Brooks, a Printer.
