Sidney's father was John Henry Dittmer and his mother was Elizabeth Maud Cunningham.  His paternal grandparents were Louis Dettmer and <female> Dettmer; his maternal grandparents were John Cunningham and Bridget Martin. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, Leonard, Albert and Eva.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at 1 months old on December 15th, 1878 in Liverpool.³
