Ruth was probably named after her Grandmother, Ruth Kay.

She was aged 16 on the 1871 census but there is a line is across the employment column so we don't know whether she worked prior to her marriage.

After mother Elizabeth and two other Deaths in Birkenhead n the early 1890's, Ruth moved in with sister Hannah (and Robert) in Bolton in 1901 with Elizabeth D and Margaret H, working form them as a domestic servant at the Royal Tiger Pub.  She may also have been ill, as she died soon after moving in 1902 at the young age of 47.
1852 - <1908 James Inman 56 56 Jamse's father was David Inman (1811-1871) and his mother Dorothy Robinson (1813-1890).  He was the youngest of 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

James was a stationer in 1871 and sometime before 1879,  for reasons unknown, moved from the rather imposing Frenchgate in Richmond to be a boarder at Clarence St Bolton.  He was a bookseller's assistant at Winterburns bookshop on Deansgate.  Celia's aunt tells her he lost his job when the son of the owner was old enough to work in the shop.  Presumably he then decided to follow Joseph to Birkenhead where he had a similar job as a stationer’s assistant.  Here began a grim life for the family.  Birth, death and census records show at least 6 different addresses for the family although It was not unusual for famillies living in towns in Victorian times to move frequently.

In 1883, James and family moved from Little Bolton to Birkenhead.

After the deaths of Elizabeth and William 1894, it may have been too much for James.  Rumour suggested that although he was registered as deceased on Sarah Ellen's 1908 marriage certificate and Ruth Mather’s 1902 death certificate he had in fact gone off to Australia.  The new emigration website finds him aged 47 on a passenger list for Sydney in 1900 but I don't know if he went alone.  It would be interesting to find out what then happened to him.
I am unable to find any records on Ancestry.

There is a James Inman of the correct age who travelled to Adelaide, Australia in 1900.  He had famale companion, (b.1857) and children Leslie (b.1880), Mabel (b.1883), Daisy (b.1889), Ana (b.1891) and an infant (b.1889), all named Inman.  Could this be the family he ran off to Australia with in 1900, leaving his wife Ruth behind !

James did spend time with John and Sarah Barratt, and John appears to have sailed overseas, but there is nothing I can find to suggest that James ever went with him.
1890 - 1974 Margaret Hannah Inman 83 83 Margaret was living with her older sister Lilian in Bolton in 1911. She later emigrated to Canada with Lilian and her husband.

Margaret was a small, thin, and frail spinster.
1885 - 1894 William Inman 8 8 1884 - 1951 Sarah Ellen Inman 67 67 1891 census records Sarah as being born in Bolton.  However, the BMD birth record is at Birkenhead.  This is consistent with the family moving to Birkenhead in mid 1884, and the birth was registered there, after they moved.

In 1901, they are back in Bolton, living with older sister Hannah, and the records shows Sarah E and Margaret H were born in Birkenhead.

Sarah Ellen married Alfred Hunt, a plumber, in 1908.  They emigrated to Toronto, Canada where they had a good life for a few years until they were probably persuaded by her father  James Hunt to return in 1913.  A terrible mistake.  Another grim time followed marked by extreme poverty.  Of their 5 children Ruth, Jim and Nell were born in Canada and the younger 2 Alfred and Lilian (still alive and has provided some of the above information) in Bolton.
1882 - 1960 Lilian Inman 78 78 Lilian married (in Toronto) and emigrated to Vancouver in Sept 1911, taking sister Margaret with her.

Lillian sailed to and from Canada twice in 1923.  She had arrived in NY on 16 May, "going home" to 218 Blanchthorn Av, Toronto, Canada where har sister Margrat lived, after a holiday.  On 2 Nov 1923 Lilian Inman of 34 Morley St, Bolton sailed (alone) on the Montcalm from Liverpool to Quebec, Canada.

Lilian (29) and sister Margaret (20) were boarding with their sister Sarah (and Alfred) Hunt at 128 Nobel Street, Bolton in 1911.

Lilian was said to be a large and domineering woman.
1880 - 1894 Elizabeth Dora Inman 13 13 1817 - 1892 Elizabeth Kay 74 74 Elizabeth is the daughter of Ralph Kay, a finisher (from 1843 marriage).

In 1841, Elizabeth (25) was living on the New Road Halliwell, Deane (near the Halliwell Road) with mother Ruth (49), Sarah (20), Samuel (17), James (15), John (13), Hannah (10), Mary (8), Ruth (8) and Rachael (4).

In 1843, Elizabeth was living on the Halliwell Road, Halliwell at time of marriage to John.  Correct marriage to John confirmed as "formerly Elizabeth Kay" on daughter Hannah's Birth Certificate of Hannah in 1844.

Living at 58 Chorley St., Bolton, Lancs.in 1851. Moved to 114 by 1861 and 1871 and 1881.

In 1871, Elizabeth was living at 114 Chorley St, next door to her brother-in-law Samuel Mather at 116.  She is listed as a Newspaper and Periodical Dealer in Worral's Bolton Directory.

In 1891, Elizabeth was living with youngest Daughter Ruth Inman and family at 7 Vine St., Birkenhead (aged 74).  The following year (1892), her death (burial) was recorded as 34 Vine Street.  After her death there was a Coroner's inquest.
