Robert and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on April 20th, 1834 at St. Mary (Deane) by Curate Edward Hayes and witnessed by Abraham Boardman & James Rothwell.¹

- Marriages to Ellen Croft (1840) and Elizabeth Hill (1844) were sons of Thomas, and to Nancy Turner (1840) was the son of James. Marriage to Agnes Rankin 15 Sep 1844 (no parent shown) at Burnley (Bolton RO/1/167), looks like it was a Scottish couple (from later census records).

      Three older brothers; Richard, John and Henry all born Harwood, so probably Robert was too, most likely Raikes Farm, Harwood.
  He died at the age of 47 in June 1860 in Bolton. His burial was on June 14th, 1860 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.³⁴

      The Robert Mather that died 8 Jul 1889 at Poulton-le-Fylde, Blackpool of correct age 78 was born 7 May 1811 so is another.

  Mary was born in 1811 in Bolton.⁵
