Agnes was born in January 1904 in Birkenhead.¹

Agnes' father was Edmund John Wood and her mother was Agnes Douglas Kinnear. Her paternal grandparents were Abraham Wood and Sarah Ann Eddowes. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Edmund, William, Sarah, Violet, Elizabeth, Daisy, Martha and Elsie. She was the oldest of the nine children.
