Emma's father was Rev William Nield and her mother was Martha Buckley. Her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Patience (Patricia) Oldham. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Arthur, John, Herbert, Patience, Annie and Beatrice. She was the fifth oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 85 on March 25th, 1970 in Middleton.²
