Beatrice's father was Rev William Nield and her mother was Martha Buckley. Her maternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Patience (Patricia) Oldham. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Arthur, John, Herbert, Patience, Annie and Emma. She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
