Phyllis' father was George Morris and her mother was Mary Ann Lomax. Her maternal grandparents were Levi Lomax and Margaret Booth. She had four brothers and three sisters, named George, Albert, George, Eric, Lillie, Margaret and Emily. She was the second youngest of the eight children.
