Emily's father was George Morris and her mother was Mary Ann Lomax. Her maternal grandparents were Levi Lomax and Margaret Booth. She had four brothers and three sisters, named George, Albert, George, Eric, Lillie, Margaret and Phyllis. She was the third youngest of the eight children.
