- Archie and Edith were pictured in the same studio (as can be seen by the chair), persumably about the time of their marriage in 1912.

Edith, known as Eda, was born in September 1888 in St. Helens.¹

Eda's father was John Robert Mercer and her mother was Emily Anne Herring. Her paternal grandparents were George Mercer and Mary Dutton. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Herbert, Douglas, Sidney, Ernest, William, Lil and Florence. She was the sixth oldest of the eight children.
