Dorothy was born in December 1913 in Birkenhead.¹

Birth Notes

Dorothy's father was Herbert Dutton Mercer and her mother was Mary Moutray. Her paternal grandparents were John Robert Mercer and Emily Anne Herring. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Henry, John, Gerald, Herbert, Alexander, Mona, Alice, Eileen and Emily. She was the third youngest of the ten children.
