Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Mary Taylor.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Melling. He had a brother and six sisters, named James, Alice, Sarah, Eliza, Martha, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Mary.  He died at the age of 2 on January 27th, 1835 in Radcliffe.  He was buried in January 1835 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).²
