Alice's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Mary Taylor.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Melling. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, James, Sarah, Eliza, Martha, Hannah and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the eight children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Mary.  She died at the age of 37 in August 1864 in Radcliffe.  She was buried on August 13th, 1864 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).²
