Sarah was born in July 1856 in Little Bolton.¹

Sarah's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Sarah Blackburn. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Hannah Knowles. She had five sisters named Hannah, Mary, Ann, Rachel and Sarah. She was the fifth oldest of the six children. She died as an infant at 4 months old in November 1856 in Little Bolton. Her burial was on November 12th, 1856 at St. Anne (Turton).²¹
