Peggy was born in 1811 in Brindle and her baptism took place there on June 2nd, 1811.1  Peggy's father was James Mather and her mother was Nanny (Ann) Miner.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Peggy Duerden. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, James, Jonathan, Hannah, Esther, Ann and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
