Robert Mather

Robert was born in January 1762 in Walmsley and his baptism took place on August 8th, 1762 at Over Darwen Lower Chapel.¹

Birth Notes
- Was expecting a birth about 1765 if Robert was 80 when he died. However, this must surley be him, as correct baptist chapel, and his first two children are named after his parents (the Robert that died at Bury is another).
  
  Must have been born early (Jan to Mar) 1762 as James remarried in June and Robert baptised in August. Another Robert son of James of Longworth was baptised at Rivington 14-Jul-1762.

Robert's father was James Mather and his mother was Esther Mason. He had four brothers named George, Thomas, Edmund and John. He was the fourth oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 69 in June 1831 in Withnell. His burial was on June 19th, 1831 at St. Andrew (Leyland).²

- Not the Robert that died 1846 in Bury.
  
  There is also an age match to a Robert Mather that died in 1843, aged 80, registered at Chorley.

General Notes
- Robert and Peggy were from Tokeholes.
  
  Another Robert (and Margaret) were from Chorley, but since they had a son Robert born in 1792 (when Samuel was born), then this must be another family. The other Robert Mather of Pigslee, Bury died 1846
  
  In 1796, Robert's son was born at Withnell. Also, his grand-daughter Sarah was baptised in 1848 while living at Withnell.
