Miles was born in 1836 in Withnell.1  Miles' father was Richard Mather and his mother was Ann Marsden.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Peggy Duerden. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Charlotte, Margaret, Betty and Sarah.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 41 in September 1877 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).  He was buried on September 15th, 1877 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).

‌Miles and Anne were married in a religious ceremony on May 23rd, 1858 at St. Mary (Deane) by Vicar Francis H Coldwell and witnessed by Joseph Crompton; Jane Norbury.6  They had an adopted son named James.


Miles' second family with Betsy Jane Tonge

‌Miles and Betsy were married in a religious ceremony on August 3rd, 1867 at St. Peter (Halliwell) by J T Lindon and witnessed by James Tonge & Ann Crompton.7  They had a son named Alfred.  There are no more children.

‌Miles and <unknown> were once in a long term relationship.  They had a son named John.
