Mary was born in March 1792 in Bedford (Leigh) and her baptism took place on March 31st, 1792 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Mary's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Dorothy Magson. She had six brothers and six sisters, named John, Robert, Robert, Joseph, Henry, Henry, Elizabeth, Alice, Ellen, Ann, Nancy and Jenny.  She was the sixth oldest of the thirteen children.
