Mary was born in June 1874 in Tonge-with-Haulgh.¹

Birth Notes

Mary's father was Samuel Mather and her mother was Sarah Hulton (nee Lee). Her paternal grandparents were Jeremiah (Jeremy) Mather and Alice Lord. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, William, Alice and Ruth. She was the second youngest of the five children.
