Leah was born on April 24th, 1796 in Walmersley and her baptism took place on May 1st, 1796 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Leah's father was Robert Madther and her mother was Judith (Judy) Chadwick.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Betty (Elizabeth) Ripson. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, Francis, Richard, Robert, Patience, Sally, Leah and Lucy.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 2 in September 1798 in Bury.  She was buried on September 9th, 1798 in Walmersley.1
