Leah was born on June 10th, 1805 in Walmersley and her baptism took place on June 30th, 1805 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Leah's father was Robert Madther and her mother was Judith (Judy) Chadwick.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Betty (Elizabeth) Ripson. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, Francis, Richard, Robert, Patience, Leah, Sally and Lucy.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
