Leah's father was Robert Madther and her mother was Judith (Judy) Chadwick. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Betty (Elizabeth) Ripson. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, Francis, Richard, Robert, Patience, Leah, Sally and Lucy. She was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
