Francis was born on February 18th, 1801 in Walmersley and his baptism took place on February 22nd, 1801 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Francis' father was Robert Madther and his mother was Judith (Judy) Chadwick.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Betty (Elizabeth) Ripson. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Samuel, Richard, Robert, Patience, Leah, Sally, Leah and Lucy.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 9 in December 1810 in Walmersley.  He was buried on December 19th, 1810 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).2
