General Notes
This is an important James Mather, married by licence and a manufacturer. They had three F.S. in 1841. In 1851, William was "employing 100 hands"
In 1836, brothers James and Peter Mather (and cousin Samuel Mather) had freehold houses and spring at Church Street, Radcliffe.
By 1841 James had left Church Street, although Peter and Samuel are still there.
In 1841, James a bleacher and Martha (both 40) were at Sandiford Trining, Radcliffe had James (15), Thomas (14), William (10), Edward (6), Charles (4) and Joseph (14 months), plus three female servants.
James sent his sons to private boarding school at Swanlow, Cheshire (1851 census). At the time, James (55) and Martha (50) were at Pilkington. James was at Crow Oaks, Pilkington, an employer "100 hands" at a bleach works (a Master Dyer).
In 1851, Sons James (25) and William H (20) were living at home.
James Mather of Crow Oaks, Pilkington died 13 June 1860
By 1861 James had died, and Martha (60) was head of house, still with sons James (35) and Joseph (20)
