James Mather

James was born in 1786 in Deane and his baptism took place on December 10th, 1786 at St. Mary (Deane).¹

James' father was John Mather and his mother was Betty Edge. He had five brothers and six sisters, named John, Thomas, Richard, Wright, William, Elizabeth, Alice, Jane, Margaret, Mary and Charlotte. He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 73 in March 1859 in Bolton. His burial was on March 20th, 1859 at Bolton Emmanuel.²²

- From 1804 till 1818, James was a Private in Coldstream Regt of Foot Guards, Waterloo. He was discharged 14 Dec 1818, aged 32, with "good conduct". He was about 5'6", brown hair, hazel eyes and a dark complexion. He was a weaver.
  
  In 1841, Alice and James (both listed as 55 although Alice is before James as older) were with their mother Betty (82) on Cannon Street, Bolton.
  
  In 1851, James Mather (60) and his sister Alice Jones (62) and brother Wright Mather (50) were still living on Cannon Street, W Bolton.
