Thomas was born in 1789 in Deane and his baptism took place on January 8th, 1789 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Thomas' father was John Mather and his mother was Betty Edge. He had five brothers and six sisters, named John, James, Richard, Wright, William, Elizabeth, Alice, Jane, Margaret, Mary and Charlotte.  He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 25 in May 1814 in Bolton.  He was buried on May 4th, 1814 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2
