Aged 51 in 1873 when James remarried at Accrington (b. 3/1821 to 2/1822)
If James is the brother of half-brother of Solomon (baptied 16/05/1819), then he may also have been baptised at Blackburn. However there are no other baptism records for sons of Solomon (although the Blackburn records are hard to read and transcribe)
In 1836, James was witness to Alice's marriage to Jabez. He would be only 16 if born 1820 (so possibly not this James, although there is no age limit).
18 Oct 1840, James Mather, a printer, son of Solomon a Joiner married Maria Carruthers, daughter of John Carruthers, a butcher. They were living at Whitefield.
No baptism for James, which is perhaps not surprising as he was probably illegitimate. Solomon father was a Publican in 1873. However, this Solomon was in Jail in 1822 when James was Born !!
There is a James Mather (16) in Newchurch, Haslingden in 1841 with Fanny (possibly Mary his Mother) and two siblings, Elizabeth (20), and Alice (13).
In 1839, another James Mather married Mary Barrisford at Eccles. It is this James that had daughters Mary (b.1843) and Sarah Ann (b.Dec 1852)
In 1841, James and Maria (both 20) are at Cabbage Row, Radcliffe with daughter Martha (7 mo).
In Feb 1873, James (51, Widow), a General Dealer of Avenua Parade, Accrington, son of Solomon Mather a Publican married Mary Murgatroyd. This cant be the same James Hardware Dealer (born ca.1812 L.B. and married to Mary from Leeds, as they are both on the census in 1871 and 1881.

Family Notes
There are baptisms for James and Maria at Manchester Cathederal (and Collegiate Church) going back well before 1840: William (1829); Sarah (1833), Elizabeth (1835); Isaac (1838); Ellen Ann (Mar 1841), Maria (Dec 1841), Mary (1844) so that can't be them! The 1851 census also shows this James (34 in 1851) had a brother Luke (20 in 1851)
No Solomon had children (inc James) baptised at Manchester Cathederal.
