Betty Mather

Betty was born in 1810 in Edgworth and her baptism took place on November 11th, 1810 at St. Anne (Turton).¹²

Betty's father was Solomon Mather and her mother was Mary (Mally) Grime. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Alice Fielding. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Isaac, Solomon, James, Amos, Alice, Catherine and Fanny. She was the oldest of the eight children.

General Notes
- Not sure what happened to Betty, the daughter of Solomon. No death records, and no marriages with Solomon named. Most probably married John Bayley in 1830 (both single) as their daughter Alice was baptised at Edgworth:
  
  4 June 1830, John Bayley married Betty Mather. Their witness was Lawrence Wroe. Two years later, Lawrence Roe married Maria Knowles. Lawrence who was Irish and Maria (both born about 1810) lived in Pilkington in 1841 when Lawrence and Maria were neighbours of John and Mary Mather nee Johnson (20 & 30), so perhaps Betty had a brother John.
