Frank was born in 1903 in Farnworth.¹ Frank's father was John Mather and his mother was Ellen (Helen) Mather. His maternal grandparents were James Henry Mather and Martha Williamson. Nicholas Croston and Sarah Mather were his grandparents through his father's adoption. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Volney, John, Lotie and Helen. He was the youngest of the five children.
