Arthur was born on February 7th, 1879 in Wallasey and his baptism took place on April 6th, 1879 at Christ Church, Walmsley.1  Arthur's father was John Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Naylor.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Hannah (Ann) Kirkham. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Ernest, John, Charles, James, John and Annie.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 70 in April 1949 in Bolton.  He was buried on April 20th, 1949.2

‌Arthur and Jane were married in a civil ceremony in September 1904 in Bolton.2  They had a son named Arthur.  There are no more children.
