Amelia was born in 1849 in Tyldesley.1  Amelia's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Ellen Watson.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Mary Harrison. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Ann, Kate and Ellen.  She was the oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 27 in 1876.

‌Amelia and John were married in a religious & civil ceremony in August 1870 in Leigh.2   The family line is yet to be completed.
